SUGGESTED LESSON PLAN

Lesson One: (Always have something for “Leave it”)

  • Check Equipment

  • Markers

  • Nose Targeting / Watch Me

  • Types of rewards & Release & Time outs

  • Dressing your dog / Handling

  • Loose Leash Walking

  • Recall

  • Sit, attention, and focus exercises and for petting. Meeting a friendly stranger

  • Wait at the door on the way out

  • Socialization

Lesson Five: (Have a towel or dog bed)

  • Two dogs recall with distraction

  • Retrieve Game

  • Meet and great with a friendly stranger

  • Dog Comes when called – no distraction

  • Automatic Sit

  • Recall from a group of dogs

  • Go to place (mat)

  • Reaction to distractions, noises

  • Supervised separation

  • Wait in Car

Lesson Two: (Have food bowl and dog food)

  • Appearance and Grooming, Health & Nutrition (food)

  • Walk a straight line – loose leash walking

  • Walk through the group with distractions

  • Touch and recall to a reverse

  • Sit and Sit/Stay – 6 ft. plus

  • Down and down/stay – 6 ft. plus

  • Leash corrections – using half-halts

  • Leave it / take it/drop it

  • Automatic Sit

  • Wait for Food Bowl

Lesson Four: (Have towel or dog bed)

  • Long Line recall exercises (retrieve on lead)

  • Come/Recall from Group of Dogs

  • One dog recall between 2 dogs from a distance

  • Go to place (mat)

  • Walk through a crowd of dogs and owners

  • Sit, Down, Stand and hold the Stand

  • Recall (Come) when called from 10 ft to 30 foot

  • Backing up

Lesson Six: (Have a towel or dog bed)

  • Comes when called – with distractions

  • Reaction to another dog during a sit

  • Sit & Down Stay – at a distance with distractions

  • Go to commands

  • Cart/Wheelchair exercises

  • Retrieve Game

  • Certificates

  • CGC Test if interested

  • Photos

Lesson Three: (Have a high-value dog toy or bone)

  • Recall from the group (each class forward)

  • Come and leashing up manners

  • Side Sit

  • Sit & Down Stay (20+ Feet & 360 degree walk around)

  • Two dog recall same time

  • Stop (Have a 20’+ Long Line/not retractable)

  • Wait at the door, in the car, stairs, etc.

  • Down/stay 20ft leash with distractions
