SUGGESTED LESSON PLAN

Lesson One:

  • Meet and greet on lead / off lead

  • Equipment check

  • Marker review

  • Nose targeting/Watch me

  • Types of rewards, releases & time outs

  • Crate training / Housebreaking

  • Puppy Come Game (Recall)

  • Sit, attention & focus exercises.

  • Socialization with people and other dogs

  • Vary potty locations

  • Grooming, Health & Nutrition (food)

  • Importance of play in training

Lesson Five: (Have a towel or dog bed)

  • Two dogs recall

  • Retrieve Game (Have an item to retrieve)

  • Meet and great with a friendly stranger

  • Dog Comes when called – no distraction

  • Automatic Sit

  • Sit & Down Stay at a distance

  • Walk on a loose leash

  • Side sit command

Lesson Two:  (Have a high-value dog bone or item)

  • Leaving your puppy alone

  • Walk a straight line – loose leash walking

  • Touch and recall to a reverse

  • Sit and Sit/Stay (2-person stay)

  • Down and Down to Stand

  • Leash corrections – using half-halts

  • Meet and greet a friendly stranger

  • Leave it – squirrels & other distractions

  • Wait at the door on the way outside

  • Teaching bite inhibition

  • Socialization & Exposure

  • Nose targeting

Lesson Four: (Have a towel or dog bed)

  • Resource Guarding

  • Long Line recall exercises

  • Puppy come/Recall from Group

  • One dog recall between 2 dogs from a distance

  • Walk through a crowd of dogs and owners while maintaining control.

  • Tap and recall (reverse)

  • Stand for appearance and grooming.

  • Puppy training in the car (car sickness?)

  • Go to “Place”

Lesson Six: (Have a towel or dog bed)

  • Review all exercises

  • Comes when called with distractions

  • Reaction to another dog during a sit

  • Sit& Down Stay / Stand

  • Certificates / STAR Puppy Test if interested

  • Photos

Lesson Three: (Have a high-value bone or item)

  • Recall from the group (each class forward)

  • Puppy meeting new people at the door and outside.

  • Sit/stay on a 6 ft. leash without distractions.

  • Down Stay (0-6 ft out with 360 turns around)

  • One dog recall

  • Take it / Drop it

  • Wait at the door, in the car, stairs, etc.

  • Put collar/harness/leash on the dog while calm.

  • Correct pulling on the leash.
